Rockwall County Clerk honored with Five Star Exemplary Award

ROCKWALL COUNTY (January 27, 2014) Rockwall County Clerk Shelli Miller, pictured along with Texas State Registrar Geraldine Harris and Chief Deputy Lea Carlson, was presented the 5 Star Exemplary Award at the Annual Vitals Conference in Austin last month.

Out of 254 Texas counties, the Rockwall County Clerk is one of only 14 Clerks that received the highly coveted award based on different criteria such as continuing education, accuracy and timeliness of birth and death registrations.

The 59th Annual Vital Statistics Conference was held from December 11th thru the 13th in Austin, Texas.  This year’s agenda included sessions on vital statistics statues, technology modernization, security issues, legislative updates and functions of birth, death and marriage reporting.

The conference’s theme this year was “Modernizing Vital Records-Navigating the Technological Highway.”

“The theme reaffirms my commitment as a leader in innovation.  As we advance, new methods are discovered of processing vital records, from enhancing already successful techniques to adopting solutions that weren’t available a decade ago.  These solutions strengthen the ability to modernize the security, efficiency and quality of vital information,” said Miller.

After being presented her award by the Texas State Registrar, Miller said that the honor should be directed to her Senior Deputy Clerk Peggy Jones and Deputy Clerk Donna Spann, the hard working, customer friendly Clerks that helped to earn the award for Rockwall County.  Miller is very proud to say that these ladies have earned this high honor for the past 4 years, not an easy task.
