Rockwall Art League program to feature graphite artist

ROCKWALL, TX (March 10, 2014) The Rockwall Art League’s March membership meeting will feature a demonstration by graphite artist Geri Dunn at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Harry Myers Community Center.

Geri was born in Lawndale, CA and at the age of 9 moved with her family to the Santa Ynez Valley north of Santa Barbara, “nestled in the golden hills of the Central Coast of California,” according to Geri. “The rolling golden wheat fields captured and fueled my imagination,” she says. “ It inspired me to draw, and appreciate the beauty of this special area.”

As an artist, Geri is primarily self-taught, but has mentored under Daryl Desmond, a master of the graphite pencil. She also credits the tutelage of Carl Seyboldt, an Art Professor at Southern University of Oregon, saying “my drawings became more complex, improving the skills of composition.”

“The artworks of Frank McCarthy, William Matthews and Howard Terpning have inspired me as an artist to develop a story within each drawing,” she says.

Geri is actively involved in the American Plains Artist Society, Women Artists of the West, and Southwestern Premier Artists. Her work has been seen in galleries and art festivals throughout California. Many of her original drawings are available at “Jenny Longhorn,” a Prescott, AZ Western boutique selling apparel, decor, and art.

She’ll be exhibiting in many Texas arts festivals in the upcoming months, including the Cottonwood Arts Festival in Richardson May 3rd & 4th.

Geri and her husband Mark now make their home in Carrollton, along with their two beloved shelties, Alex and Nicholas.
