PHOTOS: Halloween Extravaganza at Rockwall Harbor

ROCKWALL, TX (October 28, 2014) Dozens of kiddos got all dressed up in their Halloween-best for the Halloween Extravaganza and Costume Contest at The Harbor on Saturday night.

The costume contest featuring four different age group divisions and a wide range of frighteningly cute get-ups made for a picture perfect scene at The Harbor’s stage area. Kids showed off their wonderful imaginations and creativity at this year’s competition with costumes such as a slice of pepperoni pizza, a tornado, a slice of bacon named Kevin, a green blob and a Day of the Dead niña decked out with an elaborate sombrero. Winners selected a prize pumpkin and one of several toys and other goodies as a reward for their originality and hard work.

Several bounce houses and carnival games were also on display to make for a spooky good time for the kids, and even some of the parents got in on the Halloween spirit by donning their creepy costumes for the fun night out. Dodie the Mudbug also roamed the site giving out Kids Eat Free cards and inviting those in attendance to come dine on some appetizing Cajun food.

“I thought the turnout was very good,” said Dodie’s Manager Dan Keils. “It started early, and there were a lot of kids as well as adults dressed up. There were several of the kids that were dressed up in superhero costumes that I thought were really cool.”

The event was a prequel of sorts for the Cajun restaurant, as it will host its own Halloween Party and Costume Contest on Halloween night.

“I’m looking forward to a great time,” Keils said. “The costume contest starts at 10 p.m., and we’ll have a DJ. Looking forward to a great turnout, as last year we had probably 15 entries. This year we’re hoping for a little more.”

Dodie’s invites all to bring friends and have a howling good time dining on the restaurant’s outdoor patio while enjoying The Harbor festivities. The winner of the costume contest will receive a $100 Dodie’s gift certificate. Nick Alva (DJRyme) will spin live beginning at 9 p.m.
