‘Lease’ a parcel of Rockwall County Historical Foundation’s Cotton Patch

(ROCKWALL, TX – May 11, 2015) The Rockwall Founders Day Festival is this Saturday, May 16, and the Rockwall County Historical Foundation will celebrate by offering the first-time “lease” of 64 parcels (limit two per family) of the Cotton Patch, located on the RCHF & Museum grounds at Harry Myers Park, 901 Washington St.

Guest farmers are invited to plant “a stake in the ground” and cotton seeds for the 2015 growing season. For a one dollar donation, guest farmers will receive a package containing personalized replicas of the historic documents required to lease and farm a parcel of Blackland Prairie, ca. 1880; PLUS cotton seeds; and instruction for planting the lease. Guest farmers are encouraged to follow their crop’s progress and pray for rain through the growing season.

Other highlights of the day include Living History Exhibits –  blacksmithing, textile spinning, butter churning, and the popular chuckwagon. Of course, the Rockwall County Museum and Gift Shop will be open 9-5 for tours and souvenirs of the day, including “Legendary Locals,” the newly-released addition to the Sherri Stodghil Fowler book series documenting Rockwall history.
