Retirement party honors Rockwall’s Planning & Zoning Director Robert LaCroix

(ROCKWALL, TX – July 29, 2015) Many local business owners and staff of the City of Rockwall came out to give their best wishes to the city’s Planning and Zoning Director of 15 years, Robert LaCroix, during a retirement party held in his honor at The Center in Rockwall Wednesday night.

“It’s been an honor and a privilege to have served the City of Rockwall for these last 15 years,” LaCroix said. “Coming to Rockwall really gave me an opportunity to expand my knowledge and challenge me to learn more about my profession. More than anything, being able to work with this community has meant a whole lot to me. It’s been an opportunity to connect with the people I’ve worked with, and to share this vision of what the city is today, and how it’s going to grow in the future.

“I’m not leaving the community. I’m going to continue to try to do some good things for the community, and do what I can to help it grow and prosper, and become a bigger part of it than I was with the city.”

Robert – also a known accomplished musician –  received a letter of recognition for his many honorable years of service courtesy the office of Congressman John Ratcliff, as well as a special six-string banjo presented to him by City Manager Rick Crowley on behalf of the City of Rockwall.

“Under Robert’s leadership in our Planning and Zoning Department, we’ve had a lot of young planners come through and take advantage of Robert as a mentor,” Crowley said. “He’s very passionate about what he does, but also very reserved and very willing to look at opportunities and what it takes to make things work.”

“On behalf of the city council and of the City of Rockwall we appreciate everything you’ve done,” said city councilman David White. “Everyone here has dealt with this guy, I’m sure, and they know this guy knows more about planning and zoning, and the rules and regulations of the city of Rockwall than probably anybody else you could possibly talk to. He’s very knowledgeable and very helpful.”

Robert retires after a 35-year stint working in municipal government. The city hired Ryan Miller as its new Planning Director, who has experience in community development, urban design, and historical preservation, and is committed to excellent customer service. All are important attributes necessary to manage the City’s growth, and stay focused on preserving Rockwall’s unique history.

Miller has worked for the City of Rockwall since June 2012 and has served as the Planning Manager since January 2014. He previously worked as a planner for the City of Grand Prairie, has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Austin College, a Master of Public Administration, and a Master of City & Regional Planning Degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is also a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
