(ROCKWALL, TX – Jan. 13, 2016) Cameron Schmucker has earned the Rockwall High School Jacket Backers January “Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month” Award, and Haley Hicks has earned the “Lady Jacket Athlete of the Month” Award.
Cameron, a 12th grade member of the varsity basketball team, was nominated by Coach Alan Simmons and chosen by the Jacket Backers board.
Cameron has been a leader on and off the floor and has led us in in scoring and rebounding for the year. He’s averaging 11.3 ppg and 7.9 rpg. Cameron has led his team to a 2-0 start in district.
“Cameron is a leader both on and off the court. He comes every day to do his best. Cameron maintains an “A” average in the classroom. He will be a great representative for athlete of the month,” said Coach Simmons.
Also nominated was Adam Alford (Gymnastics).
Haley Hicks, an 11th grade member of the varsity basketball team, was nominated by Coach Kasie Brewer and chosen by the Jacket Backers board.
Haley had a great month being selected to the All-Tournament team in both tournaments played. Haley also helped lead her team to an overtime victory vs. Naaman Forest. The team was down by three points with 3.5 seconds left. Haley was fouled at the buzzer shooting a 3-point shot. She swished all three free throws to send us to overtime, where the Jackets eventually pulled out a win.
She led the team to second place finish in the Knight of Columbus Tournament and was awarded All-Tournament Team. Led team to second place finish in the M.T. RICE silver division and was awarded All-Tournament Team. She averaged 12.5 ppg.
“Haley is a great leader and competitor that strives to be her best daily. She puts a lot of time off the court into developing and excelling her game. Hard work pays off….as it did for Haley this month,” said Coach Brewer.
