Y ROCK, Rockwall’s newest Sprint Triathlon, June 26

From beginner to advanced, the Y ROCK has something for everyone

(ROCKWALL, TX – June 17, 2016) Registration is underway and sponsorships are available for the newest Sprint Triathlon in Rockwall, coming Sunday, June 26 to the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA, 1210 N. Goliad St.

Brought to you by Lead Sponsor Milestone Electric and produced by PlayTri Racing, the Y ROCK (formerly Dirty Rock) includes a 300 yard snake swim in a 25 yard indoor pool, a 9.5 mile bike ride (two loops), and a 3.1 mile run. The triathlon is open to everyone 13 years of age or older, and is suitable for beginners as well as ultra-competitive racers. Like all Playtri triathlons, the event will be USAT sanctioned and led by a USAT Level 2 Certified race director.

“We’re expecting well over 300 individual participants and more than 30 relay teams,” said Jude McCarthy, Wellness Director at the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall. “In years past, this event – previously known as Dirty Rock – featured an off-road element, but the off-road course we used was closed due to excessive rain and construction over the past year. As an athlete, I believe the new Y Rock will open doors for more people with a wider range of triathlon experience, from beginner to advanced, and will build a sense of community that will only deepen the relationship J.E.R. Chilton YMCA has with families in Rockwall.”

The race starts at 7 a.m., with an awards presentation set for 9:30 a.m. The course officially closes at 11 a.m. for all participants. Awards will be given for Top Overall, Masters, and Grand Masters; age group/weight class awards will be three deep for both male and female; and relay team awards will be for the top three overall relays. All finishers will receive a finisher medal.

Net proceeds from the Y Rock benefit the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA, whose mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The funds help ensure that everyone is able to participate in Y programs, regardless of their financial situation.

An eight-week Y Rock Training Program has been underway since May to help prepare race participants for the Y Rock. The program continues through June 24, and includes indoor cycling, running and swimming (M/W/F – indoor cycling at 5 a.m.; M/F – running at 5:30 a.m.; and T/TH – swimming at 5 a.m.; times subject to change).  Those interested in joining the training in progress may still do so, but the full rate of $100/Y member or $150/non-Y member applies.
