Rockwall Women’s League awards grants, scholarships from record breaking Charity Ball proceeds

Plans underway for 2018 Bayou Bash

(ROCKWALL, TX – June 14, 2017) Sixteen area high school graduates will be heading to college with their pockets a little heavier thanks to the efforts of the Rockwall Women’s League and their annual charity gala that was held on April 8, 2017 at the Omni Hotel in Dallas.

This year the theme for the gala was a Midsummer Night’s Dream and close to 700 attendees were responsible for the organization raising a record amount of $185,044.  These funds were given back to the Rockwall Community by way of local non-profit grants and scholarships.

$120,000 total in scholarships were handed out to Rockwall High School students Maya Wielmokley, Emily Chapin, Alexis Bailey, Victoria Reynolds, Joshua Villarreal and Brinkley Cover; Rockwall Heath High School students Emily Mastronardi (Electra Malone Art Scholarship), Xaviera Hernandez, Madilyn Young, Mikinsie Varner, Anna Kate Weichel and Grayson Sumpter (Patsy Hendrickson Distinguished Leadership Scholarship); Quest Academy students Cathryn DeShong and Daniel Scivetti; and Royse City High School students Kaitlyn Jeffrey and Garrett Watts.

Current Rockwall Women’s League president Lisa Ward states, “As the growth of Rockwall County increases, so does the needs of the community.  Thanks to the continuous support of local businesses and donors, we are able to make a difference in the lives of many deserving individuals.”

Bayou Bash coming April 7, 2018

Founded in 1973, the Rockwall Women’s League has raised approximately $3 million for Rockwall County through their annual Big Hat Affair and Charity Gala events.  They are already gearing up for what promises to be an exciting gala on April 7, 2018.  The theme is Bayou Bash and there is already widespread buzz and excitement about next year’s event.

“We are thrilled to build on the success of the 2017 ball!” says Saralyn Hanford, Rockwall Women’s League 2018 Gala Chair.  “We had an incredible turnout this year and folks were looking on social media for tickets the week of the gala.  We are expecting even more people to attend the Bayou Bash in 2018 so I’m encouraging everyone to buy your tickets early!”

Sponsorship information is available on rwlball.com and save the dates have already been drafted up.  Aligning with the theme of the event, Dodies Cajun Diner in Rockwall and Blue Ribbon News have recently partnered with the Rockwall Women’s League in promoting the Bayou Bash.

“Please join us at the Omni Dallas on April 7, 2018 for our Bayou Bash,” Saralyn encourages, “We are expecting this to be our best charity ball yet!”
