Rubber Duck Regatta set to make huge splash in Rockwall

Event benefitting community’s most vulnerable draws thousands every year

(ROCKWALL, TX – Aug. 30, 2017) Every year, the Rockwall Rubber Duck Regatta gets bigger and better, and this year promises to be no different. The event started six years ago as an innovative way to raise funds for two local charities—Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Texas and Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County. In the years since its inception, the signature event has drawn thousands of participants to The Harbor in Rockwall for food, festivities and a fun way to make a difference in the lives of our community’s most vulnerable members.

Early on, a handful of key sponsors realized the importance of this event, and committed financially to helping make it a huge success. Among this year’s contributors are the City of Rockwall and Southwest Kia Rockwall—along with a list of others who hope to make the annual event one for the record books.

More than anything else, it’s important to remember the impact the Sixth Annual Rockwall Rubber Duck Regatta will have for area children and seniors. The money raised will help fund vital programs and services throughout the next year. The Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Texas offers educational and enrichment programs for children after school and during the summer, and last year, the event raised enough funds to sponsor 35 members for an entire year.

“The Rubber Duck Regatta helps ensure we can continue to provide programs that foster a positive learning environment for our students,” said Jenny Krueger, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Texas. “We are very thankful for the outpouring of support this community has shown for our organization through this annual event.”

For Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County, proceeds from every duck will be used to provide life-sustaining services to homebound elderly and disabled citizens of Rockwall County. “As the number of seniors in Rockwall County grows, there are more and more people who depend on the Meals on Wheels program to maintain their independence,” said Margie VerHagen, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County. “The community’s generous support and contribution helps to make our vision a reality by sustaining the 60,000 meals and supportive services MOWSS provides for the elderly and disabled citizens annually.”

The regatta takes place on Saturday, September 16, and includes a whole host of activities for the entire family. In addition to the duck races with tons of prizes, there will also be food vendors, a kid’s zone, and a free concert by Texas Red Dirt Country favorite, Cory Morrow.
