Seventh annual event raises record funds for Dallas charity

(DALLAS, TX – January 31, 2018) Stan’s Blue Note on Lower Greenville hosted its 7th Annual Chili Cook-Off Saturday, Jan. 27, drawing a crowd and raising $1,100 for charity. This year, the money raised will benefit Children’s Medical Center and Scottish Rite Hospital through the Heart of Gold Foundation.

“The Heart of Gold Foundation thanks Stan’s Blue Note for hosting this event,” said Sid Davis with Heart of Gold. “Their support of our foundation has been a reason we have been able to continue supporting the children’s camp at each hospital.”

Based in Dallas, the Heart of Gold Foundation supports Camp Moss, a week-long summer camp for children who have had heart surgeries. The foundation helps staff Camp Moss with doctors, nurses, and the medical equipment necessary for the kids to have a true summer camp experience. They also provide golf carts for transporting kids between activities.

Twenty three crock pots filled to the brim were entered in the Cook-Off. The Texas chili category was judged by a panel of “experts,” and the winners were Dane Tamez and Brandon Jordan. The People’s Choice winners, determined by all who tasted, were Stan’s own bartender Miles Cunningham and John McCreary.

Stan’s Blue Note is located at 2908 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75206. Here you’ll find more than 30 big screen TVs tuned in to non-stop sports action, a pool table, shuffleboard, dartboards, karaoke, trivia contests, music, and two outdoor patios.

Known as Dallas’ oldest, continuously operated drinking establishment, Stan’s has stayed true to tradition since its original owner, blues player E.E. Stanley, opened the joint in 1952 – but new owners Mike McRae and Gabe Nicolella have updated the menu with made-from-scratch items, and renovated the back patio with an arbor and outdoor TVs.  Stan’s continues to be a haven for sports fans, college games, alumni groups, and special events like our Heart of Gold Chili Cook Off.

Hours are 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Happy Hour runs 4 to 7 p.m. weekdays, in addition to daily drink specials after 7. For more info, follow Stan’s Blue Note on Facebook or call 214-827-1977.
