Fundraiser combines art and history
This rare 1975 Cityscape art piece by Michael Garman entitled “LeRoy and Bertha’s Bar & Grill” will be offered during the silent auction at the American Gothic fundraising event on May 6.

(ROCKWALL, TX — February 28, 2018) Local artists of all skill levels are invited to create their own masterpiece on canvas and help preserve the past for the future during the Rockwall County Historical Foundation’s new annual art auction fundraiser, “American Gothic,” on Sunday, May 6.

Held at the picturesque Summerfield at Tate Farms (12992 FM 548) from 6-9 p.m., guests will enjoy a barbecue dinner, two complimentary glasses of wine, accompanying music, and the chance to bid on the 100+ canvases displayed on professional museum-quality panels.

The event models the highly successful Winnsboro Art Center “Starry, Starry Night” Dinner and Art Auction fundraiser, held annually to support a variety of arts-oriented programs and operational expenses for the WCA.

RCHF will provide the free 6” x 6” edge-stretched canvases for pick up at its Museum located at 901 E. Washington St. Anyone of any artistic skill level is encouraged to participate, including Rockwall ISD students, and there are no restrictions on media (painting, watercolor, photography, etc.) or subject used. Once a participating artist signs out a canvas during Museum hours (1-5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday); they have until Tuesday, April 17, to return their donated work of art to the Museum to be displayed during the fundraising event.

“This event is a unique combination of art and history,” said RCHF President Mark Russo. “Board members Jan Self and Carolyn Francisco have come up with an event that can provide fun for the whole family.”
