(ROCKWALL, TX — February 7, 2018) Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas) met this week with representatives from the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) in his Washington, D.C. office.
The meeting comes on the heels of the announcement by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, last week, that it received and accepted a long-awaited federal permit to construct the Lower Bois d’Arc Creek Reservoir.
Prior to this announcement, Ratcliffe and his staff worked together with NTMWD for multiple years to push for a final decision on the permit, ending a decades-long battle over the permitting process. Ratcliffe also coordinated a meeting between EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and NTMWD representatives last summer. The Reservoir will provide drinking water for the region to counteract the growing population and periodic rain deficits, and should be fully constructed by 2022.
“I’m grateful that our region is growing, but we’ve got to look ahead to the challenges this expansion creates. And as Northeast Texans, a stable and sustained water supply is always a top concern,” Ratcliffe said.
“I’m glad we’ve finally gotten the green light to move forward with the much-needed construction of the Lower Bois d’Arc Creek Reservoir, which will be critical to ensuring Northeast Texans will have access to drinking water for years to come.”
NTWMD representatives in attendance included Board President Bob Thurmond of Wylie, Board Vice President John Sweeden of Richardson, Bill Lofland of Rockwall, Terry Anderson of Mesquite, and John Murphy of Richardson.
