Texas Health Rockwall says breastfeeding is best

(ROCKWALL, TX – Feb. 26, 2018) The Women’s Services department at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall is proud to have re-earned designation as a Texas Ten Step program by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

Texas Ten Step hospitals endeavor to improve the health of newborns and infants by encouraging breastfeeding. “One of our objectives at Texas Health Rockwall is to help and encourage moms to be successful with their breastfeeding goals,” says lactation consultant, Cindee Phillips RN, IBCLC. “We offer daily lactation services while moms are in the hospital as well as outpatient consults and a weekly support group to help them manage any challenges they experience later.”

As a Texas Ten Step facility the hospital developed comprehensive breastfeeding policies and programs supported by education and evidence based information.  In fact, Texas Health Rockwall was one of the first hospitals in the state to participate in a project focused on the importance of breastfeeding.  In 2013, twenty hospitals joined together in a collaborative to create environments that advocate towards exclusive breastfeeding. The hospital’s commitment has continued and the program receives rave reviews from moms seeking assistance at different stages of breastfeeding – not just at birth.

“Breastfeeding is natural but it isn’t always easy,” says Phillips.  “Texas Health Rockwall has remained committed to the important goals of the program because evidence has shown that breastfeeding is best for baby.  We know mom always wants what’s best so we are here to support her and her baby the entire way.”
