New craft beer and bottle shop opening in downtown Rockwall

(ROCKWALL, TX — April 30, 2018) Local business owner Deidra Roe and her husband Jason Roe are brewing up a new store in downtown Rockwall that’s sure to bring out the “beer geek” in everyone.

Located at the site of Deidra’s former business, Dee Dee Style, at 105 S. San Jacinto on the downtown Rockwall square, the upscale craft beer and bottle shop known as Beer Geeks will house specialty craft beer to go and a variety of beer-themed merchandise such as cozies and bottle openers, and beer-themed novelty tee shirts.

Deidra said the inspiration to open up a craft beer and bottle shop stemmed from “beer-cation” trips she and Jason, a craft beer enthusiast and award-winning homebrewer, began taking several years ago.

“About five years ago we started taking beer-cations to the Austin area, where for every brewery tour he would go on, I would get to go shop downtown,” Deidra said. “We had a lot of fun and really enjoyed it. We loved the location of my shop here on the San Jacinto Music Plaza, and felt that we wanted to take what we were experiencing in Austin and bring it to downtown Rockwall.”

While craft beer enthusiasts will marvel at the selection of sour, specialty and hard-to-find craft beers found at Beer Geeks, those new to craft beer will also appreciate the wide array of local, Texas and import craft beer the store has to offer.

“I think the variety and harder to find beers we plan to carry will be very popular,” Jason said. “The more casual atmosphere will make it less intimidating for people who might be new to craft beer or wanting to try it to come in and get help or suggestions.”

Deidra said she and Jason have already received an overwhelming amount of support for their new business.

“We never imagined that people would be this excited about a craft beer store. We’ve had family and friends reach out to us offering to help, people coming up to us wanting to work at the store, and my husband’s coworkers coming up to him expressing their excitement about the new store.  It’s a very welcome surprise,” Deidra said.

For Jason, the new store presents an exciting opportunity to share his love and knowledge of craft beer with the community. Jason has been perfecting his homebrewing craft for the past six years. He placed 3rd in 2017 with his American Blonde Ale and this year took home first place in the British Brew category with his English Brown Ale titled Petrol.  Jason has served as President of his local homebrew club, Rockwall Brewers Association, in 2015 and 2017. Recently, Jason took home a first place ribbon and handcrafted Bier Stein trophy for the second year in a row from the annual Bluebonnet Brew-off competition.

Jason said he believes the new craft beer and bottle shop will be a great addition to the destination location that is Rockwall’s downtown district.

“I think the location in the heart of the downtown district will be a great spot,” Jason said. “I think Beer Geeks will fit in nicely with the area and give people in the community more options closer to home.”

The Roes are aiming to open Beer Geeks to the public in early May. For more information visit beergeeksshop.com.
