Rockwall ISD announces 2018 District Teachers of the Year

Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary and Rockwall High School teachers take top honors

(ROCKWALL, TX — May 1, 2018) Rockwall ISD is proud to announce the 2018 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year: Bridgette King, third grade teacher at Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary and Dani Leugers, Advanced Sciences teacher at Rockwall High School.

“Ms. King is an absolute champion for kids and education, said Jill Baird, principal of Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary. “Parents, colleagues, and students alike admire Mrs. King for the person she is and for the drive and passion she has to see her students succeed.”

“Mrs. Leugers’ classroom is different because of lessons like creating crime scenes throughout our building while intriguing the entire student body as to what happened and having her students swab teacher computer keyboards to measure how much bacteria is on them,” said Dr. Courtney Gober, principal of Rockwall High School.  “The list goes on and the kids love it and love her.”

Thank you to our sponsors Toyota of Rockwall, Rockwall Breakfast Rotary Club, Estes, McClure & Associates, Inc., Huckabee, Lee Lewis Construction, Northstar Builders Group, Rockwall ISD Education Foundation, SSC Service Solutions, VLK Architects and Walsh Gallegos Trevino Russo & Kyle P.C.

The Rockwall High School Jazz II Band played pre-event music while guests mingled at the Hilton Bella Harbor.

Each year, the district participates in the Teacher of the Year program by the Texas Association of School Administrators. This program begins at the district level with the opportunity to honor one educator from each Rockwall ISD campus for his or her ability to inspire students in innovative and creative ways. A selection committee then chooses the two winners after spending time in each classroom and interviewing each teacher. This year’s selection committee was Rhonda Wasson, English Language Arts for Secondary, Library Services and Languages other than English Coordinator; Megan Humphrey, Elementary Math Coordinator; Kayse Williams, Rockwall ISD 2016 Elementary Teacher of the Year; Amber Panter, Rockwall ISD 2016 Secondary Teacher of the Year; Renae Murphy, Chief Communications Officer for Rockwall ISD and John Adams, Representative of Rockwall Breakfast Rotary.

Congratulations to Bridgette King and Dani Leugers and good luck at the Teacher of the Year regional competition.
