Rockwall Art League Fine Art Show & Sale returns Sept. 21-23

Rockwall Art League Fine Art Show & Sale returns Sept. 21-23

(ROCKWALL, TX – September 10, 2018) Doors open at noon Friday, September 21 for the 18th Annual Rockwall Art League Fine Art Show and Sale. This much anticipated event is free and open to the public, and will run through Sunday, September 23 at the Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club Conference Center at The Shores, 2600 Champions Way.

Artists Receptions are planned for 5 to 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday evenings. The community is invited to visit with participating artists and enjoy live entertainment, light refreshments, and a cash bar. Awards will be presented to the winning artists during Saturday night’s reception.

Each year the Rockwall Art League hosts the Fine Art Show and Sale to increase the public’s awareness of art in our community, to provide local artists an opportunity to display their work, and to raise funds to support the RAL community outreach programs.

RAL collects a percentage of all sales made at RAL sponsored art shows and exhibits, which help fund the annual Tom Collins Scholarship and RAL’s ArtReach program. The Tom Collins scholarship is awarded every year to a local high school senior committed to being an art major in college. ArtReach is a community outreach program where local artists volunteer their time weekly to work with individuals with special needs. Art work from the ArtReach program will be on display during the Fine Art Show and Sale. For more information about these programs and other scholarship opportunities, visit the RAL website at rockwallartleague.org.

The 2018 Fine Art Show and Sale will include works from about 50 different artists representing a variety of mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography, drawing, mixed-media, and sculpture. This year’s two judges have diverse backgrounds with extensive work in the art community. Chris Blackhurst has a Master of Arts Degree in Ceramics, maintains a working studio in east Dallas, and is the Exhibits Coordinator for Texas A&M University Commerce. Cheryl Mabry is the owner and Director of the Wylie Fine Art Gallery, and the founder of the Wylie Art Society. She has a passion for oil painting and has dedicated more than 30 years to the art community as an exhibiting artist and educator.

Curtis Frederick, 2017 Best in Show

“Art improves the quality of life whether you are an artist or simply love art—it enriches the individual and the community,” Mabry said.

Art is a relationship—a conversation between expression and interpretation. That relationship is part of the Annual Fine Art Show and Sale experience. Attendees have the opportunity to interact with different artists, to discuss techniques and inspirations. Artists gain access to an audience for feedback, perspective, and recognition.

The 2017 winner of the Best in Show award, Curtis Frederick, said “the experience was an honor” and indicated that the recognition provided him with the confidence to push his artistry forward.

Alisa Fulghum, 2017 Peoples Choice

The community is encouraged to swing by the Rockwall Art League’s 18th Annual Fine Art Show to see what the artists in this area have been doing. Perhaps you’ll find a piece of artwork that belongs in your home or discover a style that inspires you to seek a commissioned piece designed specifically for your space.

While you are there be sure to cast your vote for the People’s Choice Award and be part of this conversation.
