McLendon-Chisholm Volunteer Fire Dept announces agreement with City to create McLendon-Chisholm Fire Rescue Dept

(October 9, 2018 — McLendon-Chisholm, Texas) Fire Chief Patrick Murphy announced today that the McLendon-Chisholm Volunteer Fire Department (MCVFD) has reached an agreement and signed a contract with the City to immediately begin the process of integration with the City of McLendon-Chisholm and create the McLendon-Chisholm Fire Rescue Department (MCFR).

This contract ensures the residents of McLendon-Chisholm as well as all others within Fire District 22, have guaranteed fire protection and emergency services moving forward as the MCFR, a municipal fire department. Chief Murphy expressed his deepest thanks and appreciation to Mayor Keith Short, the McLendon-Chisholm City Council and the city fire Chief Jim Simmons, for their dedication, leadership and commitment to work through a number of challenging issues that allowed an agreement to be reached which allows the city to create a fire department that builds on the long legacy of the MCVFD. Chief Murphy said “Today is a welcome day that allows us to move forward together. Chief Simmons and I are partners who are committed to Fire District 22. The firefighters of the MCVFD are dedicated to the citizens of McLendon-Chisholm and will be honored to be members of the MCFR. They see themselves as part of the fabric of the community and are humbled to serve all citizens.”

Incorporated in 1974, the McLendon-Chisholm Volunteer Fire Department, is a 501(c)(4) non-profit corporation committed to providing the highest levels of fire safety, and first response emergency medical services to the people and property within the City of McLendon-Chisholm and Southern Rockwall County within Fire District 22. Fire District 22 covers 32.3 square miles of Rockwall County, which makes it the largest district by area of the five fire departments covering Rockwall County. By agreement, the MCVFD responds to all emergency dispatch response calls by the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Department that centrally manages emergency response calls. The MCVFD also provides mutual aid to the surrounding fire departments of Rockwall, Heath, Fate, Royse City, Forney, Terrell and Union Valley. Under this new agreement, the McLendon-Chisholm Fire Rescue (MCFR) will merge with the MCVFD and the MCFR will become the sole provider of Fire Protection Services for Fire District 22, providing fire and emergency services across the southern portion of Rockwall County.
