Baseball and Bar-B-Que Team Up For 2019 Season

(ROCKWALL, TX – Oct. 10, 2018) As part of Soulman’s Bar-B-Que’s partnership with the new Royse City professional baseball team, the Royse City Griffins, center fielder Justin Byrd, catcher Bre’Shon Kimbell, along with Griffins team manager and former Texas Ranger Bump Wills, will be signing autographs on October 20th from 12-2pm at Soulman’s Bar-B-Que located at 818 I-30 Frontage Rd, Royse City, TX 75189.

About Bump Wills

Bump Wills is a former professional baseball player who is now manager for the new Royse City Griffins of the Southwest League of Professional Baseball. Wills played second base for the Rangers from 1977-81 and for the Chicago Cubs in 1982. He batted .266 for his major league career with 302 runs batted in and 196 stolen bases. He’s the son of record-setting base stealer Maury Wills, who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers. 

About Justin Byrd

Byrd comes to the Royse City Griffins from the Cleburne Railroaders. The outfielder has compiled parts of 3 seasons in professional baseball, producing his best year in 2018 batting .304 with 4 home runs. The Dallas native was a member of the Cumberland University 2014 NAIA National Championship team and was also named to the 2014 NAIA Baseball World Series All-Tournament team. 

About Bre’Shon Kimbell

Bre’Shon comes to the Griffins from the Gateway Grizzlies. He was drafted in the 28th round of the 2011 MLB draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. He played his college ball at Louisiana Tech University. As a Bulldog, he compiled 172 hits in 201 career games. He also finished his college career with a .394 slugging percentage and a .355 on-base percentage.

Kimbell also spent a couple of summers playing for the Lakeshore Chinooks and Madison Mallards out of the Northwoods League. He held a .300 batting average through 71 career games.

Royse City Griffins will be part of the Southwest League of Professional Baseball, set to officially open on April 25, 2019.The Southwest League will play a 112-game schedule with 56 home games and 56 games on the road.  The new Royse City team will play in The Ballpark at Royse City, an innovative $11M stadium located on Interstate 30 Westbound in Royse City, TX across the highway from the Royse City High School.
