Full Metal Jackets Robotics Receives Grant from Best Buy Rockwall

(ROCKWALL, TX — December 4, 2018) The Rockwall High School Robotics Team, The Full Metal Jackets, is proud to announce that they have been selected to receive a community grant from Best Buy Rockwall. Our team completed the application and essay questions for the 2018 Community Grant Application to the Best Buy Foundation. After the submission process, essays were reviewed and the top 15 organizations received a grant. The purpose of the grant is to support students in exploring new technologies and further preparing them for the workforce. The Full Metal Jackets is a student lead organization with mentor support which reinforces the goal of the grant.

The team invited Best Buy employees to their facility. Student officers prepared a presentation to introduce the team. The presentation included team history, the mission statement, student led finances, and student requirements such as community service, OSHA, and CPR training. Student officers guided the Best Buy employees on a tour of the newly opened Dr. Gene Burton College and Career Academy. After the presentation, we ushered the employees to visit each subsection of our team including the mechanical and electrical workshop where students were working on a prototype, software training, computer aided design (CAD) team, and the public relations team. The Geek Squad was thrilled to see the complexity of programming that is being taught at the high school level on the team. Lastly, the Best Buy employees presented the Rockwall Robotics Booster Club with a check of $4,000 to be used in the upcoming 2019 season. The team ended the night celebrating with cake and refreshments.
