Rockwall County Historical Lectures 2019: Dates and Topics

(ROCKWALL, TX — February 1, 2019) The Rockwall County Historical Foundation presents its Sheri Stodghill Lecture Series 2019, featuring programs of historical interest from noon to 1 p.m. in the third floor courtroom at the historic downtown Courthouse in Rockwall. Lectures are free and open to the public. Mark your calendar and join RCHF as they focus on history: Then and Now!

Friday, February 8 – Baseball

Black history month honors the history of Black Baseball in the United States. Rockwall resident Bob May noted author, researcher and speaker will be the presenter.

Friday, March 8 – Decades of Change

Jerry Hogan, former Rockwall County Judge and retired U.S. Army officer, will review the growth and changes to Rockwall from the 1950s to the present.

Friday, April 12 -Tales of the Jail

Carl Alsabrook, current City Manager of Royce City, who worked at the Rockwall County Jail from 1986-1988, will look back to present interesting tails of the jail. Sheriff Harold Eavenson will discuss updated jail status.

Friday, May 10 – D-Day

Mike Donegan, past Commander and current Chaplin of the Terry Fisher American Legion Post 117 Rockwall, Texas will review the Normandy D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944.

Friday, September 13 – Rockwall Success

Joy Bounds Greenwalt will present the 100 year history of the Rockwall Texas Success newspaper and its owners, including her family and relate significant events in Rockwall’ s history reported in the Success.

Friday, October 11 – Talking Tombstones

Leigh Shelton, Director of Theater, Rockwall High School, and students will present a unique talking tombstone program.

Friday, November 8 – Downtown and Around Town

Ryan Miller, Director of the Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Department of the City, will review Rockwall’s Historic and P & Z initiatives.

Friday, December 11 – The Rock Wall Revisited

This popular annual program will re-examine the history of the rock wall and the most recent developments regarding Rockwall’ s unique underground formation. Speaker TBD.
