Texas Health Rockwall, City of Fate Host Informative Heart-Healthy Luncheon

(ROCKWALL, TX — February 13, 2019) In recognition of American Heart Month, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall and the City of Fate teamed up to provide a free Love Your Heart Luncheon last week at Fate City Hall. Participants enjoyed a heart-healthy lunch courtesy of Olive Garden as they heard from featured speaker Kimberly Mills, a certified family nurse practitioner with Cardiology & Vascular Interventional Associates.

Mills touched on ways to promote good cardiovascular health, including knowing your numbers to prevent hypertension (high blood pressure). Since high blood pressure can wreak havoc on the heart, arteries, and other organs without showing any symptoms, the American Heart Association recommends maintaining a blood pressure level of 120/80 or less. For a healthier heart, Mills said to keep the following tips in mind:

  • Eat lean meat for a strong heartbeat
  • Reduce stress to avoid cardiac arrest
  • Don’t smoke to prevent a stroke
  • With a healthy lifestyle, you can go the extra mile

Following the presentation, luncheon guests entered a raffle for the chance to win a variety of door prizes related to relieving stress and promoting exercise, including a one-month free membership to Orangetheory Fitness Rockwall. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall’s Registered Dietitian Betsy Thomas and Physical Therapist Howard Barrett also provided those in attendance with recipes and advice for jump starting their cardiovascular health.
