Community Kicks Off Easter at Fun & Fit in the Park, featuring Heart of Heath 5k and 1-Mile Family Run

(HEATH, TX – May 1, 2019) The sun was shining and the skies were bright blue for one of the first Saturdays in weeks when the Heath community gathered for Fun & Fit in the Park, featuring the annual Heart of Heath 5k and One-Mile Family Run.

The Top 3 Girls in the 1-Mile Family Run were: 1st Place – Isabella Ruffo; 2nd Place – Brianna Weaver; 3rd Place -s Anna Claire Glaze.
The Top 3 Boys in the 1-Mile Family Run were: 1st Place – Andrew Dyer; 2nd Place – Trevor Bunyard; 3rd Place – Ethan Wyatt.

The fabulous weather helped draw 366 runners and walkers, including Tanner Townsend of Royce City, who took 1st Place in the 5k with a 16:09 time. The 1st Place Male Master was perennial winner Dwain McDuffie of West Monroe, LA, with a 16.42 time.

The Overall Female 5k winner was Katherine Peisen of Dallas at 19.20, and the 1st Place Female Master was Dana Govender of Heath at 23.57.

The youngest winners of the day were the Top 3 Boys and Top 3 Girls in the 1-Mile Family Run. Taking 1st Place among the girls was Isabella Ruffo; 2nd Place was Brianna Weaver; and 3rd Place was Anna Claire Glaze. The 1st Place boy was Andrew Dyer; 2nd Place was Trevor Bunyard; and 3rd Place was Ethan Wyatt.

Other activities included a Runners’ Warm Up presented by Camp Gladiator, complimentary refreshments, giant games like Checkers and Chess, and a Bunny Stop for face painting

Heath Mayor Kelson Elam and the Easter Bunny send the runners out.

“There are so many people to thank for helping make events like Fun & Fit in the Park a success,” said Heath Mayor Kelson Elam. “From the Special Events Board, volunteers, Heath DPS and staff to the sponsors, prize donors and unique ‘guests’ like the Snowy Range Alpacas, it’s truly a community effort. The weather even cooperated to give us a big turnout for the 5k and Family Runs.”
