Mudbugs and Music Raise ‘Crawfish Cash’ for Angel Campers

(ROCKWALL, TX — May 29, 2019) Dodie’s Cajun Diner served up nearly 2,000 pounds of mudbugs and raised $6,707 for children with special needs during its recent Crawfish Fest at The Harbor.

Each year, Dodie’s donates proceeds from the annual festival to the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall. The “crawfish cash” benefits Angel Camp, which provides day camp experiences like sailing, swimming, archery, riflery, horseback riding, and field trips to youth ages 5 to 18 with differing physical and intellectual handicaps.

A sell-out crowd of over 350 people enjoyed all-you-can-eat crawfish, corn, potatoes, jambalaya, red beans and rice – accompanied by the live music of The Big Daddy Band. Raffle drawings helped raise additional funds. Staff members and volunteers from the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA made sure that steaming platters of crawfish were plentiful and that everyone knew how important their participation was.

“We greatly appreciate the continued support of Dodie’s. Their donations, and others like it, enable us to serve the youth and families in our community in a variety of ways. One of these ways is through our Angel Camp program which serves children of all abilities, and creates an environment that allows kids to explore and enjoy new experiences with the support that their special needs require,” said Clint Elliott, District Executive Director at the Rockwall Y.

This year’s Angel Camp includes field trips to Highland Horses, bowling at Shenaniganz, sailing on Lake Ray Hubbard, and movie outings. To learn more, contact Angel Camp Director Melissa Cotner at 972-772-9622.
