Updated Location: National Day of Prayer Events Tomorrow in Rockwall

(ROCKWALL, TX – May 1, 2019) In conjunction with the National Day of Prayer, the City of Rockwall will host three separate prayer events tomorrow at The Center, located at 108 East Washington Street. It starts with the Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast tomorrow, Thursday, May 2 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Mayors from cities throughout Rockwall County will be in attendance. First Assistant Attorney General of Texas Jeffrey Mateer will be speaking, and the worship team from Transformation Anglican Church will lead the worship. The theme this year is Love One Another.

There will be a second opportunity for the community to come together in prayer tomorrow afternoon. The midday prayer event will also be held at The Center from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Prayers will be offered by pastors and community leaders.

For those who work or otherwise can’t make the day’s events, there will be a third opportunity to gather in prayer later tomorrow evening. Originally scheduled for outdoors, the night event has been moved to The Center due to the threat of inclement weather, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

The first Continental Congress called for a National Day of Prayer in 1775, as did Abraham Lincoln in 1863. Then, Congress established the National Day of Prayer as an annual event by joint resolution signed by President Truman in 1952. The law was amended and signed by President Reagan to officially designate the first Thursday in May as the annual date. The events are not political, but rather meant to encourage people county-wide to join their neighbors in a call to pray for our nation just as our national leaders will do in Washington D.C.
