Fly a Flag, Support the Scouts

‘Flags Over Rockwall’ Fundraiser Supports Local Scouts Troop

(ROCKWALL, TX — June 26, 2019) This Independence Day, Boy Scouts Troop 83 of Rockwall invites residents to show their patriotic pride and fly a flag through their Flags Over Rockwall fundraising program.

Six times a year, the Troop 83 scouts plant large U.S. flags in the yards of program subscribers all throughout Rockwall. For a $35 annual subscription, folks can purchase a flag measuring three feet by five feet on a 10-foot pole to be placed in their yard during the following holidays: President’s Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veterans’ Day.

As Troop 83’s primary fundraiser, the Flags Over Rockwall program has garnered a ton of support from the community. The troop currently places 500 flags in neighborhoods around the county, including The Shores, Buffalo Creek and Woodcreek. The funds raised from the flag program serve the troop by helping to pay for transportation costs to campouts and other outdoor activities, as well as supplies such as rank badges for the scouts.

Troop 83 Scoutmaster Alan Curry said he’s always amazed at the amount of folks who ask for flags each year. He said they’ll often have neighbors come up and ask for flags whenever the scouts are out on the weekends planting them in yards.

“People want to be patriotic and support our troops, and our Flags Over Rockwall program is a great way to do both,” Curry said.

Not only that, the program has also been instrumental in teaching the scouts respect for the colors. Each scout in Troop 83 participates in placing flags at least twice a year.
