Rockwall ISD Holds Dedication Ceremony for Virginia Reinhardt Elementary

(ROCKWALL, TX – Oct. 28, 2019) Rockwall ISD recently celebrated the opening of the new Reinhardt Elementary School with a dedication ceremony. The new Reinhardt Elementary opened its doors for the first time in the fall of 2019.

In attendance were Rockwall ISD board members, namesakes Linda Lyon, Sharon Shannon and Doris Cullins, city and elected officials, representatives from Huckabee Architects and NorthStar Construction, students, parents, staff and members of the community. Mary Sue Reinhardt Smith, the daughter of Virginia Reinhardt, along with other Reinhardt family members were also in attendance.

“For those of us who were fortunate to grow up here, our educational journey began with the excellence established by people like Ms. Virginia Reinhardt, who stood for service, integrity, and high standards,” said Rockwall ISD Board President Jon Bailey. “To see a new building continue to bear the name of Virginia Reinhardt means our history continues for generations to come.”

Principal Amanda Payne spoke to the emotional transition from the old school to the new school at the dedication ceremony.

“While there were sentimental connections to the old building, the same feelings of the school are still here as we continue to carry out the example set by Ms. Virginia Reinhardt,” said Reinhardt Principal Amanda Payne. “She was passionate about teaching and she positively influenced those around her. We strive to uphold those ideals in our words and actions every day. We want our school to be one of which she and her family are proud of.”

Reinhardt Elementary School is an 88,000-square foot facility with a capacity to serve approximately 583 students. The building was funded through the 2015 bond program approved by voters.

“Reinhardt is our history, and today we see it begin a new chapter for the thousands of children who will attend this school for years to come,” said Superintendent Dr. John Villarreal. “Children will be educated here, fed here, and most importantly, loved here.”
