(ROCKWALL, TX — Nov. 11, 2019) On Veterans Day morning, the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall welcomed city officials, veterans and community members to a flag-folding ceremony in recognition of those who serve and have served in our nation’s military.

Put on in partnership with the Terry Fisher American Legion Post 117 in Rockwall, the event featured a 13-fold flag folding ceremony led by Army veteran and Retired US Secret Service Senior Special Agent Clarence Jorif, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. After the ceremony, those in attendance enjoyed breakfast tacos courtesy of the YMCA and coffee provided by Starbucks.

“We’re so excited to get to host this event here in honor of our veterans on Veterans Day,” said J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall Executive Director Clint Elliot. “I’d like to thank the American Legion for putting on this program that means so very much to us and the community. Most importantly, thank you to our veterans for all you do, for your sacrifices and your service for our great country.”

Rockwall County Commissioner and Army veteran Cliff Sevier also thanked those in attendance, and encouraged folks to show their gratitude and appreciation for veterans today.

“Today, if you see a veteran, please go up and thank him or her for their service that they’ve done for their country. If you know of a veteran, call them, thank them. They would really appreciate that,” Sevier said.

The YMCA has been serving military veterans since the Civil War in 1861, providing free memberships to veterans and their families.

“For those veterans who don’t currently call this place home, I encourage you to do so, because we love to take care of you here at the Y,” Elliot said.
