McLendon-Chisholm Unveils Engraved Bricks at Veterans Memorial

(ROCKWALL, TX — Nov. 11, 2019) The newly-installed engraved bricks for the McLendon-Chisholm Veterans Memorial were unveiled today during a ceremony at City Hall (1371 FM 550). Engraved on the bricks are the names of veterans from all around Rockwall County, including several veterans who are buried in the McLendon-Chisholm Cemetery.

On behalf of the city council, councilwoman Lorna Kipphut read proclamations honoring several individuals whose contributions were key to the Veterans Memorial project.

The Packer family was recognized for their financial and material contributions which not only helped forge the current City Hall building, but also the brick pathway for the Veterans Memorial.

Gary Lovell, who has served on city council and mayor pro tem, was recognized for his dedication to maintaining and caring for the McLendon-Chisholm Cemetery grounds. His wife, Mindy Lovell, was also honored for her efforts in creating and supporting the Veterans Memorial with the Rock Wall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).

“In this Veterans Memorial, my dad’s name is out there. My father-in-law’s name is out there. And by the trust of this great nation that let me become a Marine, my name’s out there. Some of my friends’ names are out there. It’s because of Mindy Lovell and her servant’s heart,” said McLendon-Chisholm Mayor Keith Short.

Finally, Terry Fisher American Legion Post 117 members were recognized for working tirelessly with McLendon-Chisholm citizens to conceptualize, fund and construct the Veterans Memorial.
