(ROCKWALL, TX) State Representative Justin Holland posted the following on his Facebook page today, in regards to the TRS lease in Indeed Tower:

“Following my statement about the TRS Lease in Indeed Tower [see below, dated Jan. 22, 2020] I traveled to Austin for a State Affairs Hearing. While there on January 30, 2020, I invited TRS Executive Director Brian Guthrie to my Capitol Office. We had a productive and enlightening meeting. I learned a lot of things that I had not known previously and I thank the agency for their diligence in meeting with me and understanding the concerns that I have for my constituents. TRS was professional, courteous and prepared for my questions. They have since met personally with several other legislative offices and legislators.

Most importantly to me, I further clarified that my retired teachers and families were upset, confused and even outraged by the TRS lease news. I told Mr. Guthrie that while we are very happy that our TRS investments continue to outperform their projections, my retired teachers are disheartened year-after-year about their health and retirement benefits packages; specifically issues with solvency of the fund in past years, lack of a cost-of-living adjustment and health care premiums.

Today, The TRS Board of Trustees met to discuss the $326,000 per month lease and has voted to extend its lease at the current office location and will sublease the space at Indeed Tower to fulfill its 10 year obligation. This is a victory, yet again, to the powerful voice of retired teachers in the State of Texas.”
