ORIGINAL STORY

(ROCKWALL, TX) Meals On Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County will host its annual Spring Tea Luncheon at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 19 at Hidden Creek in Heath, featuring a plated meal by Zanata, paired teas from Sterling Tea, and an amazing raffle drawing.

“The Annual Luncheon has continued to grow each year, raising record-setting funds in 2019 that helped provide over 2,500 meals to the seniors and homebound in our community,” said Margie Verhagen., MOWSS Executive Director.  “This event has become one of the premier spring events in Rockwall County.”

Tickets and sponsorships are available at rockwallmealsonwheels.org.

The annual luncheon is one of the many events during the National March for Meals campaign.  It is designed to generate public awareness about senior hunger and isolation and to celebrate the invaluable services provided by the Meals On Wheels programs – both home delivered and congregate.  Also, it is intended to showcase the successes of the Older Americans Act, help recruit new volunteers from our community, and to increase fundraising from local businesses and supporters.

Meals On Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County currently serves over 450 meals daily to homebound seniors and congregate sites throughout Rockwall County.  In 2020, Rockwall County will have over 22,000 citizens eligible for Meals On Wheels services.

“Your support helps to make our vision a reality by sustaining the 65,000 meals MOWSS provides for the elderly and disabled annually. MOWSS’s goal is to not only provide meals to the homebound, but also enrich the lives of all seniors, by providing a congregate center with an active focal point to socialize, receive meals, access resources, and partake in health education,” said Verhagen.

The dedicated board, staff and volunteers who deliver these meals each week provide a vital lifeline and connection to the community, which are sometimes all it takes to keep our senior neighbors at home where they want to be.
