Rockwall County Helping Hands honors volunteers with Starfish Awards

(ROCKWALL, TX — April 24, 2020) In recognition of its Volunteer Appreciation Week and Month, Rockwall County Helping Hands celebrated its volunteers for their dedication in improving the lives of those less fortunate. The agency honored several special individuals whose outstanding efforts led to great success within each of their respective departments.

Congrats to the following volunteers who were recognized with a Starfish Award:

Ceci Chancellor, Helping Hands Thrift Store

“Ceci volunteers multiple days per week every week since 2015. She can always be counted on to help for special events. Her amazing talents help us keep the Thrift Store looking amazing to generate customer interest and enthusiasm.” — Kathy DiNuovo, Director of Stores

Roxanne Haayen, Helping Hands Boutique

“Roxanne volunteers multiple days per week every week since 2016. We count on her help for all special events. In addition to cashiering, Roxanne helps us process items to get them on the sales floor and provides exceptional customer service.” — Kathy DiNuovo, Director of Stores

Jerry Jennison, Helping Hands Assistance & Referral / Food Pantry

“Jerry Jennison has volunteered at Helping Hands for five years. You can find him in the Food Pantry every Friday morning helping pack and load food into vehicles. He also helps organize Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church’s food drive benefiting Helping Hands. We are thankful for Jerry’s time and effort serving those in need in our community.” — Tarren Oswald, Director of Assistance & Referral

Joanne Minuete, Helping Hands Health Center

“She volunteers with us consistently doing everything I’ve asked her to do. She comes in with a smile and usually a cake or cookies and helps with whatever we need, mostly clerical help in the front office. The staff all love her and truly appreciate her!” — Donna Barnett, Health Center Practice Manager

Gary Spraggins, Helping Hands Philanthropy Department

“Gary Spraggins is a current Helping Hands board member and has been serving as the Co-Chairman for the agency’s Golf Tournament. Gary was instrumental in the restructuring of the Golf Tournament’s successful new format, helping transition it to a new golf team fundraising model. Gary’s unbounding enthusiasm, eternal optimism, dedication and insightful input were key to the success of this annual event. Gary even brought out his dad to DJ at the Golf Tournament to add to the festivities. Thank you, Gary, for your leadership and most of all, your kindness.” — Melody Hail, Sr. Director of Philanthropy
