GOOD HEALTH

From group exercise classes and personal
training to water fitness and swim lessons
in the indoor pool, the JER Chilton YMCA
offers health and wellness activities for all
ages and abilities. Group exercise classes
are included with membership.

The Y’s youth sports programs include flag
football, cheerleading, volleyball, baseball,
T-ball, soccer, and basketball. Dedicated
coaches help young athletes improve their
skills, while being the best they can be off
the field, too. Each child gets a chance to
play in a safe, fun and exciting environment
encouraging fair play, a positive atmosphere
and family involvement. Best of all, there are
no tryouts so all kids are welcome to play.

Teen programming includes a statewide,
civic engagement program known as Youth
& Government, giving high school and
middle school students hands-on experience
in the mechanics of the state legislative
and judicial process.

Aquatics programs include everything
from the Riptides competitive swim
team to Family Swim, Senior Splash
and AquaZumba. Plus, swim lessons are
available for all ages; and the indoor pool
is a great place to celebrate a birthday.

Summer camps, Angel Camp for children
with special needs, and Adventure Guides
are additional programs available that
help nurture youth and strengthen families
and community. To learn more, call

ROCKWALL YMCA

VOTED BEST

HEALTH CLUB/GYM

The J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall is
honored to have earned not one but four
“Best Of” awards, thanks to many votes
of confidence from our community.

“We couldn’t be more excited that readers
of Living Magazine voted us the Best
Health Club/Gym, Best Yoga Studio, Best
Pilates Class, and Best Camp for Kids,” said
Executive Director Bonnie LaVielle. “As our
members know, we are so much more than a
gym; we are a community center, and we are
family. Thanks to everyone who voted and
helped make this recognition possible.”

The Rockwall Y’s newly renovated facility
features a 12,000 sq. ft. addition, which
includes a 6,000 sq. ft. cardio and free-weights
area with state-of-the-art equipment, spacious
locker rooms and showers, and
a large Welcome Center and lobby. There
is also a gymnasium, aerobics room, and
cycling studio. The expanded child watch area
allows parents to work out while their children
are cared for. The Y’s multipurpose room
serves as a place for community functions and
senior luncheons.

As remarkable as the facility is, LaVielle said
that the building is just a tool to fulfill the
mission of the Y: to put Christian values into
practice through programs that build healthy
spirit, mind and body for all.

Financial aid and scholarships are available to
help ensure that no one is turned away from
participating in Y programs due to inability to
pay.

YMCA Angel Campers enjoyed an end-of-summer camp banquet and dance July 29, with

Rockwall Mayor Jim Pruitt and Rockwall County District Attorney Kenda Culpepper as guest

speakers. Dodie’s and Nothing Bundt Cakes provided dinner and dessert; Wally’s provided

decorations. During the camp, area youth with special needs participated in horseback

riding, bowling, field trips, and sailing with Sail with Scott. Photo by Blue Ribbon News.
