Rockwall Lacrosse players sign National Letters of Intent

(ROCKWALL, TX — Nov. 9, 2016) Three Rockwall-Heath High School seniors signed National Letters of Intent today to continue their lacrosse careers at the collegiate level. Rockwall Lacrosse players Brody Lowry, Carson Newman and J. C. Hohenshelt were joined by teammates, coaches, and family during the signing day event held on the 7th floor of Trend Tower near The Harbor in Rockwall. Lowry and Newman will play NCAA Division I Lacrosse for Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, and are the first Rockwall lacrosse players to ever sign with a NCAA Division I lacrosse program. Hohenshelt will continue lacrosse at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado which competes in Division II of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association.

#18 Brody Lowry, Attack — Brody ranks in the top 10 percent of his class at RHHS and plans to major in Pre-Med at Bellarmine. He was named All-State in 2016 by the Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSSL) for the second consecutive year after becoming Rockwall Lacrosse’s first All-State player following the 2015 season. Brody will be a Team Captain for the third consecutive year in 2017. He was one of the leading goal scorers in the state this year with a team-leading 61 goals and 78 points, was second on the team with 17 assists, collected 29 ground balls and caused five turnovers. He was selected to play in the Texas All Star Roundup 2017 game. Brody has helped coach several youth teams for Rockwall Lacrosse and has played in the organization for 10 years.

#5 Carson Newman, Midfielder / Face-off – Carson plans to major in Sports Medicine at Bellarmine. He received his second consecutive THSSL award by being named All-State in 2016 after becoming Rockwall’s first All-District player following the 2015 season. Carson received this All-State award despite playing in only eight of the team’s 17 games due to a season-ending knee injury. He was second on the team with 78 ground balls, led the team in face-off win percentage at 79 percent (107 of 135 face-offs), scored 14 goals and recorded nine assists in the 2016 season. Carson was selected to play in the Texas All Star Roundup 2017 game but due to his injury served as Honorary Captain for the team. He has played for 10 years in the Rockwall Lacrosse organization and works with aspiring face-off men throughout Rockwall Lacrosse’s youth programs.

#24 J.C. Hohenshelt, Defense – J.C. ranks in the top five percent of his class at RHHS and plans to major in Engineering at Colorado School of Mines. He was named Honorable Mention All-District by THSSL this year. He collected 46 ground balls and ranked second on the team with 31 caused turnovers in the 2016 season. J.C. has played in the Rockwall Lacrosse organization for eight years and was an assistant coach for the Rockwall 5th and 6th grade teams in 2016.
