(ROWLETT, TX — September 29, 2017) As soon as you ring the doorbell to the Magic Fun House Castle, you’ll be greeted by a zombie, a vampire, and a shifty-eyed butler. As smoke billows throughout the room, Wizard Wayne will lead you into his parlor full of magic tricks and optical illusions, all the while sneaking in a smidge of humor on the side.
Kids and adults alike come from all over the area to enjoy an afternoon of spooky fun or a whimsical birthday experience at the Magic Fun House, located at 4100 Rowlett Rd, #400. Guests are treated to a tour of the castle grounds where they will research the cure for a zombie virus, hunt down an unruly ghost, and learn a little bit about the history of magic.
Wayne Parker, known more commonly by his aliases Wizard Wayne and Doctor Zombieo, has been a tenant of the McKenna Group castle at 4100 Rowlett Road since October 2014 and has decades of experience in the art of magic. Wayne said when he first saw the castle and all the different rooms available, he decided to not only open a magic shop but also offer tours to people of all ages.
“At the Magic Fun House Castle, I’m able to share more than I ever could when I performed on the road,” Wayne said. “Here at the castle, I can better set the stage with visuals and sounds and have better access to different props, so I can make quick changes to my routines to better suit my different guests.”
Both his grandfather and his father shared his hobby for magic tricks, and Wayne says many of the standard tricks from their generations are still popular today. A large glass case at the front of the castle displays 82–year-old gadgets used by his father and grandfather, which mirror many of the gadgets he has for sale for young magicians and illusionists who want to learn how to “wow” a crowd of spectators just like Wayne does.
“By far, the thing I enjoy the most about what I do is the people: the look in a child’s eyes when they meet me, when they walk into the castle, when they have that look of surprise that covers their face and sparkles in their eyes,” Wayne said. “And to get the same reactions from adults as well makes me smile on the outside, and deep on the inside.”
Wizard Wayne offers tours of his Magic Fun House Castle Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. “After Hours” tours and magic show times can be reserved on Friday and Saturday nights from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. or 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tours are offered year-round.
The cost for a Daily Magic Show Tour is $25 for adults and $15 for children under 12 years old. The cost for an “After Hours” Full Magic Show Tour is $40 for adults and $25 for children under 12 years old. There are group discounts for parties larger than 10 people, and children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Private Party Reservations include access to the party room, and are available upon request.
“My guests and their smiles are the real magic to me, and I want them to feel the same about their unique experience I feel they will remember for years to come,” Wayne said.
