Rowlett to host Cardboard Boat Regatta

ROWLETT, TX (March 9, 2015) The Rowlett Parks and Recreation Department will host the “Rowlett Cardboard Boat Regatta” on Saturday, April at the Community Park pond located in the Waterview subdivision, 8500 St. Andrews. The event will take place at 1:30 p.m. after “Kid Fish.”

The Cardboard Boat Regatta is open to participants ages 8 and up. Teams will construct boats from cardboard and race them across the Community Park pond. This is the perfect “team-building” opportunity for schools, sports teams, scout organizations, churches and local businesses. Local businesses that enter the race will be given the opportunity to have a marketing booth. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in the following age groups:

  • 8-13 years (Youth)
  • 14 and up (Adult)

The registration fee per team if registered by April 6 is $20. If registered after April 6, the fee is $30. The registration deadline is Saturday, April 18. Prizes will also be awarded for the following contests:

  • Best Construction Technique Award
  • Best Decorated Boat
  • The Titanic Award – for the best spectacular sinking

Teams can register by visiting the Rowlett Community Centre at 5300 Main Street or online at www.rowlett.com/parksandrec. Upon registering, event rules and a “boat building basics” packet with building tips and suggested supplies.
