RHS soccer player wins Wing Stop Scholar Athlete of the Month

ROWLETT, TX (April 4, 2015) Surprised on the soccer field by CBS 11, Rowlett High School senior Garrett Stroud was named the Wing Stop Scholar Athlete of the Month March 17. He is one of just 10 high schoolers to receive this title, in addition to a $1,000 scholarship.

“I feel really special,” Stroud said. “I guess hard work pays off.”

Stroud applied for this honor along with thousands of other North Texas students. To win, he proved good academic and athletic standing and demonstrated community service.

“We are so very proud of him,” said Stroud’s mother Kelly. “He has had so many accomplishments both on and off the field. He is just a good kid all the way around.”

On March 17, Stroud’s family helped Wing Stop surprise him with his new-found fame. He says the $1,000 will help pay for meals and books in the fall when he attends Harding University on a soccer scholarship. Stroud hopes to one day become a doctor.
