(ROCKWALL, TX — March 25, 2016) The City of Rockwall will hold its annual Memorial Day Concert on Friday, May 27, at 7 p.m. at The Harbor Amphitheater. The community is invited to this free event featuring music representing wars throughout the history of the U.S. and honoring veterans who served in those wars.
“Our theme for this year’s concert is War Letters,” said Christopher Lynch, Memorial Day concert planning committee chairman. “We are combining the dramatic and musical talents of our city to present a program that entertains and commemorates the sacrifice of those who served.”
The concert will combine the efforts of the Rockwall Community Band, directed by Mike McGill, with student actors and musicians from Rockwall ISD to present a unique tribute for Memorial Day. Student actors will read actual letters from service members and families from all the nation’s wars and this correspondence will be combined with a musical selections performed by a student vocalist or the fine musicians of the Rockwall Community Band.
Rockwall ISD’s Director of Arts, Chris Kosterman, will serve as concert director and is excited to showcase the talents of his students.
“We are adding dramatic elements to this year’s concert and the pairing of the very moving letters with the music will result in a deserved tribute and an entertaining experience,” he said.
Mayor Jim Pruitt will open this year’s concert and Rockwall Police Department Honor Guard will start the concert by presenting our colors. Gary Freedman’s narration will add historical context to the letters and musical offerings.
