Heart of Heath 5K, 1-Mile Family Run draws over 350 runners
The crowd gets ready for the Heart of Heath 5k and 1-Mile Family Run with a Runner’s Warm Up led by Diedre Bramlett.

(HEATH, TX — March 30, 2016) The sun was shining brightly on Heath as the community and guests celebrated Easter Saturday, March 26, at Fun & Fitness in the Park featuring the annual Heart of Heath 5k and One-Mile Family Run.

Fun & Fit in the Park activities also included complimentary refreshments, giant games like Checkers, and an Easter craft in the Artstream Mobile Art Studio.

More than 356 entered the two runs, with Keaton Forsyth of Royce City, taking 1st place in the 5k with an 18:03 time. Second Place in the 5k was Jay Shisler at 18:08; and coming in 3rd Place was Seth Hodges of Royce City, with a 19:17 time. The Overall Male Masters 5k winner was Terry Spann of Mesquite at 20:30; the Overall Female 5k winner was Katie Peisen of Heath at 20:18; and the Overall Female Master was Tracy Brubaker of McKinney at 20:21. Forsyth was also the Overall Male Winner.

The most joyous and exuberant winners of the day, however, were the Top 3 Boys and Top 3 Girls in the 1-Mile Family Run. These up-and-comers were: (Girls) Evie Knox, 1st place; Bailey Corrigan, 2nd place; and Campbell Corrigan, 3rd place; (Boys) Preston Landman, 1st place; Carl Forester, 2nd place; and Zachary Wingard, 3rd place.

Heath Mayor Lorne Liechty congratulates the Heart of Heath 5k Overall Female winner Katie Peisen of Heath, who had a time of 20:18.

“The City of Heath appreciates the generous support of the sponsors and prize donors, and we thank the Special Events Board, volunteers and City staff for their hard work to make this a signature holiday event for our community,” said Heath Mayor Lorne Liechty, noting that proceeds from the runs benefit Heath’s parks and trails.
