(ROCKWALL, TX — March 7, 2016) The Rockwall-Heath Highsteppers team, elite team, and officers took home multiple awards at the Marching Auxiliaries Dance Competition in Grapevine on Feb. 13. The Highsteppers team earned Top Scoring team of all competing teams, as well as receiving Super Sweepstakes, high point, choreography and technique awards for each routine in the kick, pom, and contemporary genres.The elite team won Super Sweepstakes, high point, choreography, and technique awards in each of their entered dances in the hip hop, jazz, and contemporary categories.
The Highsteppers officers won Super Sweepstakes, choreography awards in contemporary and jazz and technique awards in the contemporary and open categories, and received 3rd place Winner’s Circle against all other officers. Soloists also competed at this event and the Highstepper Captain, Shawnee Gillham, was awarded 2nd runner up in the Senior 17 category. JV officers Laura Bender and Marybeth Deren tied for 2nd runner up in the Senior 15 category.
