Homebound seniors receive meals from local ‘champions’

(ROCKWALL, TX — March 23, 2016) For its annual month-long March for Meals campaign, Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County (MOWSS)  has been in full swing this month raising awareness on senior hunger and recruiting new volunteers for MOWSS programs throughout the country . The week of March 20-26 marks Community Champions Week for the campaign, as members of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall, several city officials and business community members from across the county volunteer their time to deliver meals to local homebound elderly. Around 150 meals will be delivered to 290 MOWSS clients throughout the week.

Since 1978, MOWSS has brought assistance for those older adults facing health and mobility issues that cause the need for assistance to foster independence regardless of duration of need. The program provides hot, nutritious, noontime meals – over 45,000 a year – and personal contact to homebound elderly in Rockwall County each weekday. Meals are monitored by a licensed dietician following the State Health Services regulations and meeting one-third of the recommended dietary allowance.
