Women In Need welcomes My Sister’s Closet-Rockwall with ribbon cutting

(ROCKWALL, TX — April 5, 2016) A sizable crowd joined Women In Need (WIN) and the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce in a ribbon cutting celebration for the grand opening of My Sister’s Closet-Rockwall on Tuesday at the Soroptmist House (a.k.a. The Advocacy Center of Rockwall County) at 1350 E Washington St.

WIN is a local nonprofit domestic violence agency that provides services to victims of domestic, dating and intimate partner violence free of charge.  WIN is proud to bring My Sister’s Closet to Rockwall, adding to their existing locations in Greenville, Quinlan and Commerce.  My Sister’s Closet-Rockwall will offer high end resale items at a fraction of department store prices, and folks can help WIN provide free services to domestic violence victims by either shopping or donating to the boutique.

“When a victim comes to us, whether from the child advocacy center or from WIN, some of them only have the clothes on their back and just their child with them, and they don’t have any other clothing,” said Connie Pettitt, executive director of WIN. “They can go ahead and shop in our boutique for free. We have a section with clothes women can wear to court, so that they can feel good about stepping into that courtroom, have that confidence that comes with wearing nice clothes to be able to go in and face their abuser as they go through the protective order process.”

As of August 2015, WIN has been providing domestic violence services out of The Advocacy Center of Rockwall County. As the year progresses, the advocacy center will not only be a home for domestic, dating and intimate partner violence victims but will also house the Children’s Advocacy Center of Rockwall County.

“This is an advocacy center that’s not only going to be used for women and men who have suffered abuse at home, it’s also going to be a haven, a refuge, a place for counseling for those children in our community who have been physically assaulted, sexually assaulted, or neglected, or have witnessed any of those,” said Rockwall County District Attorney Kenda Culpepper. “We of the Rockwall County Child Advocacy Center are honored to be in collaboration with the Women In Need organization.”
