Lone Star CASA swears in record number of volunteers

(ROCKWALL, TX — June 14, 2016) Thirteen new CASA volunteers were sworn in on Monday, June 13, setting a record for new volunteers!  Pictured from left to right are: Jim Craig, April Smigielski, Jessica Milton, Debbie Seese, Shelley Hays, Jodi Pendarvis, Judge Brett Hall, Robin Cruz, Greg Smith, Katrina Johnson, Chris Cameron, Mel Fox, Toni Garcia and Mandy Monk.  These advocates are now ready to advocate for children in foster care in Kaufman and Rockwall counties.

CASA volunteers complete 30 hours of training, pass various background checks and observe court proceedings.  A CASA remains on the CPS case until permanency is achieved for the child.  The child’s CASA meets everyone involved in the child’s life and makes recommendations to the court as to what is in the child’s best interest.  The next New Volunteer training begins in October 2016.  For more information visit lonestarcasa.org or call 972-772-5858.
