(ROCKWALL, TX — Aug. 5, 2016) This summer RCC member Julianna Torrez-Rodriguez traveled to San Antonio to perform with the Elementary Honor Choir of the Texas Choral Directors Association (TCDA). The Elementary honor choir preformed at the annual meeting, performing for TCDA membership and parents, over 2500 people in attendance. The choir was conducted by renowned conductor Sandy Knudson. Members of the choir were chosen from over 750 audition recordings with only 130 chosen. Julianna was the only student in Rockwall selected for this great honor. Julianna is a member of the Rockwall Children’s Chorus and Reinhardt Elementary choir.
RCC choir director, Shelba Gorham-Bell, shared her vision for the primary aim of the choir: “It is our hope that the Rockwall Children’s Chorus enables children to experience joy through music.”
The Rockwall Children’s Chorus is an award winning choir for children from 2nd Grade through 6th grade in the greater Rockwall area. The program teaches children how to use their voices to express their emotions and share their gifts with members of our community. We offer our children a way to grow and to give. The Rockwall Children’s Chorus “gives back” by performing at a variety of events throughout the year. The love of music is a gift these children will take with them throughout the rest of their lives and RCC is blessed each season with a wonderful group of children.
Open auditions for the 2016-2017 season are scheduled for after school on September 6th and 8th at First United Methodist Church in Rockwall. There is no need to prepare music and each audition will be approximately 10 minutes. Please contact Shelba Gorham-Bell at 214-537-3311 for more information and to schedule a time.
