State Rep-Elect Justin Holland set to begin first term in Texas House

(AUSTIN, TX – Jan. 6, 2017) The 85th Texas Legislature is set to convene next Tuesday, January 10. The first order of business for the Legislature is the swearing-in ceremony where Justin Holland will officially become the State Representative for House District 33.

“I look forward to making progress on critical issues that are important to the residents of HD 33, many of which were discussed during my campaign. One of my main priorities this session will be public education. Our current education system does not empower parents, teachers or students, and we must increase local control for school districts so our children can finally be taught an education instead of simply preparing them for a standardized test,” Rep-elect Holland said.” Additionally, Texas lawmakers have a huge opportunity to clean up the issues within Child Protective Services and I’ve already started looking at what we can do to help fix many of the agency’s problems and better protect our most vulnerable youth.”

As the owner of a small business and real estate broker, Rep-elect Holland knows firsthand the challenges businesses face from burdensome mandates and regulations.

“In order to maintain a healthy economy and continue growing our job market, we have to reduce taxes so business owners can afford to create jobs, and a lot of that starts with cutting wasteful government spending. I will not support any bill, including the state budget, if it will ultimately hurt businesses and kill jobs,” said Rep-elect Holland.

Rep-elect Holland filed his first bill in November, HB 457. Currently, the tax code allows peace officers to keep their appraisal records confidential. HB 457 extends the confidential option to the spouse or surviving spouse and adult children of peace officers.

“Coming from a family of law enforcement, this bill is near and dear to my heart. It’s important we remember to include the families of our peace officers as we back the blue,” said Rep-elect Holland.

You can attend the swearing-in ceremony next Tuesday, January 10, at 12:00 PM in the Texas Capitol House Gallery, or watch the live stream by clicking here
