(ROCKWALL, TX – Feb. 24, 2017) Exactly one week from today, I will be in Little Rock, Arkansas jamming to a Twenty One Pilots concert! And the best part is, I’ll be with my special someone and we’ve both never seen them live!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with TOP, they are an alt hip hop/indie pop rock musical duo out of Columbus, Ohio. They self-released their first two albums, Twenty One Pilots (2009) and Regional at Best (2011) before releasing their label debut album, Vessel, in 2013. Their fourth and latest album Blurryface was released in 2015. They branch across a lot of different genres so it’s hard to place them in any one genre of music. They use electronic keyboards, synthesizers, drums and on occasion, one of my favorite instruments – the ukulele!
While the concert will be a blast, I’m really looking forward to getting a tour of Searcy and Little Rock from my love. She goes to college in Searcy, and her spring break begins next weekend. She’ll be taking me on a tour of her campus, which looks very beautiful from pictures she has shown me, especially this time of year when the flowering trees are beginning to bloom. She has admitted to me that there’s not a whole lot to do in Searcy, but all the same I think the time we’ll get to spend together will nullify that. Besides, it’s been quite a while since I took a road trip anywhere.
It takes approximately five hours to get from Rockwall to Searcy. That’s not a bad drive at all. When I attended A&M Galveston, I would drive about that long there and back on the weekends. I became so used to that drive I cut it down to about four and half hours (I tend to speed a bit when I drive). And you can bet I’ll be jamming to some TOP all the way into Arkansas!
After the concert’s over, my trip to Arkansas will come to an end, but the fun wmy girlfriend and I will then travel back to Rockwall the following day, where she will be spending the rest of her Spring Break. That’s going to be one of the best road trips ever! There’s nothing like getting to be on the open road with the people you love. Plus, she knows some great places to stop along the way, and we won’t be in any hurry to get back.
This whole thing reminds me of my last road trip to Arkansas. The last time I was in Arkansas, my parents, my brother and I camped in a log cabin in the Little Grand Canyon near Jasper. The view was absolutely gorgeous! I remember there was a plateau in the backyard, and we drove golf balls off it into the abyss below. No worries, though; to our knowledge there wasn’t anyone camping close enough to us in the valley below for the golf balls to cause any damage to property or person. There were plenty of hiking trails nearby as well. The whole family had a great time sitting out near the fire pit and enjoying the beautiful sunset.
It’s these kinds of memories that tend to last a lifetime, and I’m sure I’ll be making more awesome memories like those during my trip next weekend.
