Herren appointed to fill vacant McLendon-Chisholm city council seat

(MCLENDON-CHISHOLM, TX — March 1, 2017) Last night the McLendon-Chisholm City Council appointed Mr. Jim Herren to fill the seat left vacant by the untimely death of Councilman Jerry Klutts.  The unanimous vote follows the previous decision by the council that was made just before the candidate filing deadline, which would have put that decision in the hands of voters in a Special Election.  However, once the deadline had passed, Jim Herren was the only candidate to file for Mr. Klutts vacated seat, which prompted the council to cancel the special election in a special meeting last week and then appoint Mr. Herren at last night’s meeting.  He was sworn in immediately following the vote to appoint.

In an address to the council before the vote, Mr. Herren said, “I believe that those in government should be accountable to the people, transparent in all its actions, and responsive to the will of the majority.”

Jim Herren takes the oath of office for McLendon-Chisholm City Council to fill the seat left vacant by the untimely death of Councilman Jerry Klutts as City Secretary, Stephanie Galanides, looks on.

Adrienne Balkum is also running unopposed for the seat that is currently held by Gary Lovell, who did not file to run for re-election.

Both Herren and Balkum have announced that they still plan to run a campaign, but as a ticket alongside Mr. Scott Turnbull, the only candidate facing opposition in the race to fill the seat that is currently held by Patrick Short, who announced that he would not be running for re-election.  All three candidates helped in last year’s successful tax rollback ballot initiative and campaigned for Wayne Orchard and Robert Steinhagen who were both elected by wide margins.
