Rockwall native appointed to U.S. Military Academy

(ROCKWALL, TX — May 22, 2017) The Rockwall Republican Men’s Club welcomed Congressman John Ratcliffe to honor a Rockwall student who was appointed to the United States Military Academy.

Nathaniel Peek, son of Rockwall County Treasurer David Peek, underwent a meticulous application process for an opportunity Ratcliffe said few Americans have the honor to receive.

Members of Ratcliffe’s Military Advisory Board made up of prior Military Academy graduates and military veterans rank, rate and review each applicant based on test scores, community service, church involvement and athletics. Only a select few are then nominated by Congressman Ratcliffe’s office, and each nominee must then convince the Academy to offer them an appointment. According to Ratcliffe, only 12 percent (one out of every eight nominees) receive an appointment.

“Nathaniel, you are about to embark on a journey that will test you physically, mentally and morally,” Ratcliffe said. “But at the same time you have an opportunity that very few Americans have. You will go to a place where you will have the opportunity to be instilled with the very highest ideals of loyalty, honor, and service to country, and there is no greater opportunity or calling than that. We congratulate you on your appointment, wish you good luck, and Godspeed.”
