(ROCKWALL, TX — July 26, 2017) The Kiwanis Club of Rockwall County is once again gearing up for their annual Tri-Rock Triathlon. The triathlon will be held this year on Sunday, August 6. The purpose of Tri-Rock is to raise funds to support the Kiwanis Club’s Food for Kids program (packing and distributing 300+ meals a month to qualified children), the Angel League (a spring and fall baseball league for children and adults with special needs), Terrific Kids (awards presented to grade school children for good citizenship) and for several other programs, all aimed at improving the lives of the children in the community.
This triathlon is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and is a great race for beginners or as a tune up for experienced athletes. The triathlon promoter, Playtri Cycling has several locations to pick up registration packets. The triathlon will be held at the Rockwall ISD Aquatic Center (1205 T.L. Townsend Dr.). Transition starts at 6:00 a.m. and the race officially begins at 7:15 a.m. The course starts with a 300-meter swim, then a 13-mile bike course and finishes with a 5k run around the Rockwall County Courthouse. All racers will receive a tee shirt and participant medal. “Rock” awards will be given out in several categories and will be presented by the mayor of Rockwall. Relay teams are permitted. Food will be provided free of charge to participants.
