(DALLAS, TX — August 24, 2017) Skratch, a demand-based mobile app for iPhone that connects teens in local neighborhoods with adults who are looking for help with tasks, announces a partnership and pilot program with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County. Developed for teens looking for quick, safe and skill-based ways to make extra cash, Skratch is providing the opportunity to teens of the organization to participate and complete gigs inside Boys & Girls Clubs locations in Plano with plans to expand to Frisco and McKinney in the future. These gigs, exclusive to the Clubs, include roles such as office assistant, homework helper, bus attendant and more. The Skratch platform has been modified specifically for this pilot program, with the goal to help the teens gain safe and reliable work experience, while aiding the club and its staff to operate more efficiently.
“We are creating opportunities for kids to earn, mentor and learn,” said Scott Bennett, co-founder and CEO of Skratch. “A partnership like this one is something we’ve been wanting to embark on for quite some time now. Partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County allows us the opportunity to work with teens we otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to do so. As we continue to grow and expand into other markets, we look forward to continue working with these teens outside of the Boys and Girls Clubs.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County impacts more than 7,000 children and teenagers by providing a safe place to learn and grow in the vulnerable hours between school and home. It offers a variety of program activities and support services designed to assist in the educational, emotional, physical and social development of six to 18-year-olds, without regard to social, racial, ethnic or religious background.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Skratch for this pilot program. Following the success in Plano, we hope to expand this opportunity to all of our Collin County clubs,” said Mike Simpson, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Collin County. “Many of these young adults have grown up at our clubs. Our key focus with this partnership is to continue providing a safe place for them to learn and grow, while helping them become productive, hardworking and responsible citizens. This program will help teens understand the importance of being able to apply for a job, perform the task to the quality expected and be able to manage the money that they earn, and will add even more focus and to our Money Matters Program. “
The pilot program began this month and will continue through October 2017 with the goal of extending the partnership. Payment for gigs completed are being funded by Skratch, through money raised from the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas’s GroundFloor program, a mentor-driven social innovation fund and impact accelerator program that invests seed funding and resources.
