(GARLAND, TX —October 11, 2017) Garland ISD students celebrated National School Lunch Week and Take Your Parents to Lunch Day with a special visit from the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Jump with Jill Live Tour this morning at Bradfield Elementary School.
Garland ISD is one of just 20 districts selected to feature the Texas Department of Agriculture’s live-action show, Texas Farm Fresh Jump with Jill Live Tour, which makes nutrition education fun and exciting.
A school meal renaissance is happening in GISD, thanks to the district’s Student Nutrition Department and culinary supervisors. The district continuously introduces new menu items, features Texas-grown produce, and solicits feedback from students as well as parents. The district’s test kitchen samples everything from totchos to pupusas to Baja fish tacos to Thai chili chicken flatbread. Programs such as Breakfast in the Classroom, free meals for all at 23 campuses, monthly birthday celebrations, and Farm-to-School initiatives help ensure all students have access to healthy, filling meals.
